Bac Giang women introducing innovation to lychee farming businesses
In the heart of Vietnam’s lychee capital – Luc Ngan, three agricultural young female entrepreneurs are using innovation, inclusion and collaboration to add value to produce, and reduce post-harvest losses.
Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy, Ho Kieu Oanh and Tran Thi Anh are leaders and active members of their cooperative in Bac Giang province.
The #AustralianEmbassy-supported Horticulture Innovation Club #HIC has helped this group of women lead the way for farmers in their cooperative and neighbouring cooperatives (that includes a diverse group of farmers such as the elderly and ethnic minorities) to access knowledge, experts and technology that helps support their small to medium farm businesses.
Discussions with like-minded, forward-looking farmers, researchers and businesses in the Horticulture Innovation Club, resulted in the use of a drying technology, that enables their cooperatives to take novel products to market. These products has solved storage and transport challenges, improved post-harvest loss and in turn stabilised the lychee produce value.
